Item number: 650552
Striking freestanding Danish Modern executive desk designed by Jacob Kjær (1896–1957) for Christensen & Larsen, Denmark, in the late 1940s / early 1950s. Crafted in richly figured rosewood, the desk features eight drawers to the front with elegant brass handles and a distinctive modernist brass key. An identical documented example with the same dimensions is attributed to Christensen & Larsen and dated to this period.
The reverse is equally considered, with an integrated open bookshelf and storage arrangement, allowing the desk to stand freely in the centre of a room. Kjær was an important figure in early Danish Modern and Scandinavian design and is particularly associated with the FN Chair designed for the United Nations headquarters in New York.
